HomeAid Care Day at Solomon's Temple

HomeAid holds first Care Day of 2018 in southwest Atlanta

Rsz_homeaid_volunteers_at_solomons_templeOn March 23, HomeAid Atlanta held its first Care Day of 2018 at Solomon’s Temple in southwest Atlanta.  HomeAid Care Days are “done in a day” workdays providing free-of-charge maintenance and repairs for nonprofit organizations serving people experiencing homelessness in Atlanta.  Solomon’s Temple provides housing to single women and women with children as they strive to rebuild their lives.

Volunteers from Engel & Völkers Buckhead Atlanta, Kennesaw State University National Association of Home Builders Student Chapter, and Georgia Gwinnett College worked hard to complete much needed landscaping and gardening tasks. The groups transformed the grounds by clearing and replanting several garden beds, and re-mulching the playground and picnic areas.  Soon the residents at Solomon’s Temple will have fresh tomatoes, peppers, herbs and more from their very own garden.  The workday generated a savings of approximately $3,000 for Solomon’s Temple, funds that will be used to help meet the immediate needs of the women and children they serve.  Engel & Völkers Buckhead Atlanta provided financial support for the project, and Ross Davies of Super-Sod provided expert knowledge and planning assistance.

This was HomeAid’s third Care Day with Solomon’s Temple since 2015.  Following this Care Day, Kecia Baker, Solomon’s Temple Director of Programs and Facilities remarked, “It truly takes a village to make the world go ‘round and HomeAid has been our village! We've accomplished so much with the help of HomeAid and their good volunteers’ hard work. We are so grateful!”

Solomon’s Temple Executive Director Patricia Smith added, “HomeAid Atlanta makes us happy! We always know that when Jean Hilyard (HomeAid Atlanta Director of Community Engagement) shows up, we will be taken care of! HomeAid volunteers are well prepped and enthusiastic about accomplishing the goal.”
