HOMEAID CARE DAY AT SALVATION ARMY RED SHIELD SERVICES

Volunteer groups make improvements at Red Shield Shelter

ATLANTA – September 15, 2017 - HomeAid Atlanta welcomed two hard working groups for a HomeAid Care Day at Salvation Army Red Shield Services. Volunteers from the Professional Women in Building Atlanta Chapter and Kennesaw State University National Association of Home Builders - Student Chapter completed several upgrades at Salvation Army Red Shield Shelter. The shelter provides strategic intervention, refuge, and safe lodging for homeless men, women and children in crisis with the goal of transitioning to stable independence.

HmsdOver the course of the day, volunteers completed needed tasks including re-soiling and planting fall vegetables in urban planters for use in resident meals, rebuilding two picnic tables, painting additional picnic tables and benches, and other landscaping projects. The hard work of these volunteers provided a savings of over $3,000 for Red Shield Services, allowing these funds to help with programs for shelter residents as they work to rebuild their lives.

Thank you to all volunteers and Ross Davies with Super-Sod, who provided knowledge and leadership for the HomeAid Care Day. Sherwin-Williams generously donated paint.

Sgt. Janeane Schmidt, Director of Red Shield Services, said, “Our outside patio is friendlier and more welcoming with the updates to the garden and the patio furniture. We are looking forward to enjoying fresh vegetables, like radishes and cabbage this fall. We appreciate the generosity and hard work that the volunteers provided to freshen up our facility. When people offer their time, treasure, and talent, we know the gift is from heart.”
