SECOND ‘BIRDHOUSE SOCIAL’ HOSTED AT STUDIOPLEX

New Lofts in Atlanta at Studioplex BY ARCHITECTURE FOR HUMANITY
August 14, 4-8 PM
Free Event Features Auction of Custom-designed Birdhouses to Benefit Local Humanitarian Design Projects

ATLANTA – August 4, 2010 – Studioplex, the live/work community in Atlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward (www.Studioplexlofts.com) will be the location for the second ‘Birdhouse Social’ hosted by the Atlanta chapter of Architecture for Humanity (www.afhatlanta.org). The event will take place on Saturday, August 14 from 4 – 8 PM.

First held in 2009, the ‘Birdhouse Social’ will feature a silent auction of custom birdhouses and chicken coops, designed by some of Atlanta’s most creative residents. All proceeds will benefit the Greater Vine City Opportunities Program and English Avenue Campus renovation. The fun fundraiser is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to arrive early in order to view the one-of-a-kind birdhouses and place their bids before the silent auction ends promptly at 7 PM. Details regarding each individual birdhouse will be available at the event.

There will be live music, impromptu dance performances and light fare at the event taking place in Studioplex’s central courtyard (659 Auburn Avenue). Grafite Design, the Atlanta-based visual merchandising studio, will again design the birdhouse displays. Parking is free.

“We are pleased to welcome Architecture for Humanity Atlanta back to Studioplex for this creative fundraiser,” says Dillon Baynes of the Orinda Corporation, one of the three owners of Studioplex. “And it will remind visitors to Studioplex that our live/work community offers some creative housing solutions for people as well!”

AFHA Board members will be on hand to provide information on local humanitarian design initiatives and ongoing projects.
