New home closings in the Atlanta, GA market jumped year-over-year in August, and the market seemed to be hinting at strengthening with a percentage bump more robust than July 2016. There was a 10.1% jump in new home closings from a year earlier. This came after a 5.6% hike year-over-year in July, according to Builder Magazine. Read article here

Homeaid Care Days With CAI-Georgia At Must Ministries

HomeAid Atlanta and Community Associations Institute Georgia Chapter (CAI) partnered together on May 12 and May 19 for a large scale HomeAid Care Day event to benefit MUST Ministries’ Elizabeth Inn Shelter.

Over the course of the two days, volunteers tackled an extensive to-do list including pressure washing; building a custom closet; painting; replacing rotten wood on office trailers; cleaning and organizing; parking lot - repair, sealing and restriping; rebuilding a handicap ramp and stairs; landscaping with new play safe mulch on children’s playground; creating a large, interactive original artwork on freshly installed concrete for children; and more.

MUST Ministries’ campus received much needed repairs and improvements, valued at approximately $50,000. These types of savings free-up money for the programs they provide. MUST Ministries’ Elizabeth Inn Shelter serves clients by providing two different programs depending on client needs: services to meet both immediate needs (food, clothing, shelter) and long-term needs such as employment assistance, support groups, and more.

“HomeAid Atlanta couldn’t have had a better partner for the project at MUST. CAI-Georgia’s Help Hands committee, led by Melanie Caceres, are an amazing group of resourceful and hardworking people. Howard Cox, MUST Ministries Development Officer remarked, “MUST Ministries has truly been blessed with the outpouring of support from HomeAid, CAI–Georiga, and all the volunteers who turned out to spruce up the MUST Ministries Elizabeth Inn homeless shelter campus. As our CEO Dr. Ike Reighard said during the dedication of the mural, volunteers like these are the reason MUST is able to serve over 30,000 individuals annually.”

MUST’s Director of Facilities Operations, David Ladnak, said, “The CAI-Georgia – HomeAid Care Days had the largest impact on the campus I’ve seen in the five years I’ve been here.”

HomeAid Atlanta, founded in 2001, is a nonprofit organization that builds new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach. Homeaid Atlanta’s 2017 Essentials Drive

HomeairHomeAid Atlanta’s 16th Annual Essentials Drive to benefit homeless babies and their mothers wrapped up on May 12, just in time for Mother’s Day. The community-wide effort to collect “essential” baby products such as diapers, baby food, formula, wipes, and hygiene items garnered more than 134,000 items, with a value of over $24,000. Items were distributed to 24 area nonprofits serving homeless children and families, providing critical support to these organizations and the families they serve. Several of the receiving locations were built or renovated in partnership with HomeAid Atlanta. The Drive was first launched in 2002 to help meet the growing needs of Atlanta’s changing homeless population. Since then, more than 1,000,000 essential baby items have been collected and distributed.

From May 1 – May 9, more than 40 Atlanta business and organizations, as well as hundreds of individuals, participated in the Essentials Drive by hosting collections and making donations. On May 11, volunteers from companies including Denim Marketing, CBRE, McMichael & Gray PC, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Bank of America worked diligently to sort and pack baby items for delivery.

Atlanta-based UPS joined HomeAid for the 11th year to assist with delivery of donated items. Four UPS employees volunteered to drive two trucks to receiving locations. Atlantis Granite & Marble also assisted with deliveries for the first year.
