Irene Hall to Lead Atlanta Professional Women in Building

ATLANTA (January 18, 2017) – Irene Hall, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for FrontDoor Communities, will serve as the 2017 Chair for the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association Professional Women in Building Council. In 2013, she was one of the founders of Atlanta PWB, which today is one of the fastest-growing councils of the GAHBA with more than 155 members.

“Our council is on track to provide an outstanding framework for exceptional programs, ongoing and meaningful community outreach and will continue to be a valuable resource and support system to the professional women in our industry,” says Hall.

Dreading Tax Season? Save money with Homeowner Tax Deductions - Get full benefit of tax breaks for 2017!

Everyone one wants lower taxes.  Since the beginning of time, April 15th strikes dread in many Americans who rent their homes.  What if you could build your wealth and save taxes at the same time?  By owning your home, you are eligible to receive many tax benefits throughout the time you spend in your home. Mortgage Interest - When you purchase a home, you are allowed to deduct all of your interest payments on any mortgage up to $1 million. You can find out more about these deductions by visiting IRS Publication 936, Home Mortgage Interest Deductions.

Points - It is sometimes hard to understand all of the mortgage lingo but simply put, one point is equal to 1% of the principal of the loan. It is common to see fees in the amount of one to three points on a home loan. These fees are included on the income tax deductions list and can be fully deducted provided they are associated with the purchase of a home.

Property Taxes -Property taxes are fully deductible from your income taxes on your Form 1040. However, if your money is being held in escrow for the purpose of paying property taxes, you cannot claim this deduction until the money is actually taken out of escrow and paid. In addition, if you receive a partial refund of your property tax, this reduces the amount of the deduction you can claim.

Home Office Deduction -If you use a portion of your home exclusively for the purpose of an office for your small business, you may be able to claim a deduction on your taxes for costs related to insurance, repairs, and depreciation. The IRS recognizes two times when you may claim a home office deduction:

  • Part of your home is used exclusively and regularly as either your principal place of business, or a place where you meet and deal with customers or patients. If there is a separate structure attached to your home, then the regular and exclusive use does not also have to be your principal place of business; or
  • Part of your home is used on a regular basis for storing things that are used in your business, such as product samples or inventory. In addition, this also encompasses home daycare facilities.

KerTaxMoving Costs -If a new job requires you to move so you can begin work, you may be able to deduct a portion of your moving costs from your income taxes. There are a couple of requirements that you must meet in order to be able to make these deductions. First, your new job must be at least 50 miles farther from your old home than your previous job was. Second, you must work full time for at least 39 weeks during the 12 months following your move. Moving costs deductions may include items such as transportation, lodging and storage fees.

From child care costs to mortgage interest to charitable donations to moving expenses, the IRS offers a lengthy list of tax write-offs that can reduce your taxable income, so read carefully and decide which ones you can take.*

Homeaid Atlanta & Whitefield Academy Men’s Fraternity Assist Safehouse Outreach

HomeAid Atlanta and the Whitefield Academy Men’s Fraternity recently teamed up to complete a series of HomeAid Care Days at SafeHouse Outreach, an Atlanta nonprofit with a mission to effect real change in the lives of those in the margins of society by providing a hand-up, not just a hand-out.

The two groups worked at SafeHouse on three Saturdays in November and December, totaling close to 300 man hours in prepping the home for a complete renovation. Budget Dumpster donated three dumpsters for use during the Care Days.

In 2017, HomeAid will complete a total renovation of the apartment building as well as a single-family home also owned by SafeHouse that will provide housing for 17+ homeless individuals participating in SafeHouse’s Career Development Program as well as program staff housing.

“It has been a tremendous honor working with Whitefield Academy and HomeAid as they have taken the lead to organize and facilitate three work days. I'm excited to have such support from Whitefield Academy, HomeAid and SafeHouse Outreach to partner in our work to impact lives in a positive way,” said Josh Bray, Executive Director of SafeHouse Outreach.

Remarking on the fact that Whitefield, HomeAid and SafeHouse share similar missions and principles, Shawn Ryan, volunteer and member of the Whitefield Academy’s Men’s Fraternity said, “It has been a blessing for Whitefield dads to come together with HomeAid and SafeHouse to lend time and know that the purpose and goal are very much in the heart of Christ - transforming lives.”
